Whilst taking photos for my phone box project I noticed more and more closed down pubs. Once you notice one, you can’t seem to move for closed pubs, boarded-up pubs and buildings that were once pubs!
I started taking photos of these closed down community hubs and soon had enough (along with some other boarded up shops) to compile into a volume entitled, Time gentlemen, please.
Be warned, despite being really pleased with the book, it is the saddest thing you will ever leaf through. Buildings which once filled with laughter and life, now stand cold and empty. The very lucky ones get reopened, the lucky ones become a different kind of community asset, but the majority seem to get left to rot. No doubt waiting for the only viable option being redevelopment, and a tidy profit secured for the land owner – just not for the community.
