I am not a Northerner. Just want to make that clear. I live in the North, so when I record the world around me, it is through the lens of a outsider.
I often feel, thanks to years of underinvestment, towns in the north of England are slower to change to whatever is seen as more modern. Indoor markets are only just starting to disappear, cafes serving mugs of tea still hang on and food stalls sell parched peas (whatever they are).
Maybe it is my outsider status (a feeling not just reserved for the North!) which enables me to find the joy in the everyday minutia of market towns and the people who live in them.
